Embrace Your Age

I Remember as a teenager how I  looked forward to the day when I could legally walk into a bar and order a pint of beer. There were many occassions when I tried to look older than I was to get into a pub. Time moves along at a fairly rapid pace and before you know it your looking back on those days with fond and maybe not so fond memories.

When we’re younger, we want to be older, and when we’re finally older, we want to be young again…but here are a few tips for embracing your age.


Live. Love. LAUGH.They say Laughter is the medicine for the soul it’s good for your spirit and your body as well, carrying various health benefits such as the release of chemicals that make you feel good. The brain is a reservoir of happy chemicals waiting to be released. So when was the last time you had a really good belly laugh?? I mean the one where you nearly pee your pants or in some cases actually do! lol

Remember when you were a kid you always found something funny to laugh about…and especially at older people..(well me anyway).To me they always seemed so stern and uptight.  Don’t know why but I always got the giggles whenever I had to go   to church..invariably there would be someone doing something in church that you thought funny and of course if you were with a friend and you shared the joke it would turn into full blown hilarity You know that deep belly laugh that you desperately tried to old back? And those sitting near you would give you that under the brow look. and sometimes no matter what you just couldn’t hold it in any longer and it would come out has a big hissing sound and you would try to mask it with a loud cough…Yeah they were good days of laughing about silly things.

I really want to encourage you to go find a few funny books, movies, or television shows that make you smile, chuckle, and guffaw, and see how your mood and your perspective improve It really is great medicine to uplift the spirit.

Be Grateful

Today particularly in the west we have so much to be grateful for .Imagine If those that lived only 100 years ago were able to come back and see how far we have progressed particularly in the areas of technology. Transport, Housing all the mod cons we have.  It’s hard to be unhappy about anything in life when you’re filled with gratitude. Being thankful for the good times and even the challenges that life offers you will really shift your perspective on the things that formerly made you upset.

Write down a list of things to be grateful for every day, and reflect on this list before you go to bed or when you wake up.

Find Things You Enjoy

Take a class in something you’ve always wanted to learn about, or pick up old hobbies again, whether that’s cooking, painting, music, or Tai-chi. Life is all about continued learning..Don’t concern yourself so much about the end result  just start doing what you like. The truth is we never get it finished anyway…There’s always something else,Just enjoy the process of learning, creating, and doing something that you enjoy. Explore things you’ve never done before, and find the thing that lights your inner spark into a flaming fire and zest for life. As they say, “we grow old because we stop playing.” It’s time to start Playing again.

Get Active

Now this is a biggie. If like me now in my late fifties the joints are starting to creak and moan and getting physical can take a bit of effort. Physical activity is good for you body, mind, and spirit, keeping you active, happy, and healthy. You’ll feel younger and more alive if you run, swim, bike, or even just get out of your home or apartment by taking a walk outside. Being in nature is a great way to feel youthful again.

Look Around… I mean Really Look!!

You know the saying..stop and smell the roses…well try doing that with intention and mindfulness…Really make the effort to actually STOP! and smell the roses or just gaze at something that attract your attention and hold that gaze for longer than what you would normally and soak it all in. Don’t allow your mind to make a story out of it just be in the moment with whatever it is.Take out your photo albums and look at the life you’ve lived, and people who are or were near to you in the past and present. Chances are you’ll be amazed by the incredible story that unfolds before your very eyes, and you won’t feel so bad about your age anymore. You may even be inspired to write a memoir and share your story with others.

Start That Business!

What about that business you have always wanted to start but never got around to it…For whatever reasons you gave back then…Don’t allow the past to dictate your future…That was me just a short few years ago…I always used to say “i’m too old to do that now…and one day my wife reminded me that i had been using that excuse since i was forty!!!  and it was true! It was time for a shift in my thinking.

A Paradigm Shift

I had for some time been contemplating starting my own online business but managed to convince  myself it was going to be too difficult or I didn’t have the time..All excuses of course.

So i decided it was time to bite the bullet and take a leap of faith.

I’m happy to report things are really working out well for me now and I  have been happily building my online business and feel more in control of my life now in my late fifties than at any other

time in my life…So i’m embracing my age in a positive way.

So why not you !!  Maybe you have always wanted to start an online business or learn about marketing or advertising.
